The Way of Jesus

May 10, 2026    Mark Johnson

The Way of Jesus confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: there is often a significant gap between what we profess and what we practice in our faith. Drawing from Luke 6:46, we hear Jesus ask a piercing question: 'Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?' This isn't about theology or Bible knowledge—it's about the disconnect between our Sunday declarations and our Monday through Saturday actions. The sermon uses the metaphor of someone who buys all the running gear but never actually runs, challenging us to examine whether we are merely admirers of Jesus or true apprentices. We learn that many of us have mastered the language of faith—the prayers, the jargon, the religious vocabulary—but haven't mastered the lifestyle. The parable of the two builders becomes central: both faced the same storm, but only the one who dug deep and built on rock remained standing. This isn't about avoiding storms in life; it's about what foundation we've established before they arrive. The call is clear: move from spectator to participator, from inherited religion to practiced discipleship. We're reminded that God didn't save us just to keep us out of hell, but to create heaven on earth through lives transformed by genuine practice of Jesus' ways.
