Take the Leap

Aug 9, 2026    Mark Johnson

What does it look like to stop playing it safe and actually trust God with the unknown? This message dives deep into that question using the story found in Luke 5, where a group of professional fishermen who had worked through the night without catching a single thing encounter Jesus on the shoreline. We explore what it means to be caught in a season of washing our nets, cleaning up after disappointment, and simply trying to survive rather than thrive. The central challenge laid before us is this: too many of us are praying for God to change our future while we fiercely protect our familiarity. God rarely reveals the entire staircase. He asks us to take the next step. The shoreline represents everything we cling to for comfort, control, and predictability, but the miracle never happens on the shore. It happens in the deep. If we are willing to untie from the things holding us back, whether that is fear, a broken identity, a harmful relationship, or the weight of past failure, we position ourselves to experience what God has been preparing for us all along.
