Where Are We Going?

May 3, 2026    Mark Johnson

This powerful conclusion to the Church 101 series challenges us to move beyond simply understanding what the church is and step into the mission of where we're going. Drawing from Matthew 28, we're reminded that the Great Commission isn't just about knowing Jesus—it's about going with Jesus. The message unpacks three crucial directions for our spiritual journey: rescuing the lost, redeeming the least, and remembering what's left. What's particularly compelling is the honest acknowledgment that worship and doubt can coexist. Like the eleven disciples who saw the risen Jesus yet still struggled with uncertainty, we too can approach God with our questions while maintaining our devotion. The call to make disciples isn't reserved for the educated, qualified, or popular—God specializes in using the marginalized, the broken, and the overlooked. We're challenged to embrace nine simple practices that Jesus modeled: Scripture, Sabbath, prayer, solitude, witness, community, generosity, fasting, and service. These aren't complicated theological concepts but practical rhythms that transform us from the inside out. The message culminates in a stirring reminder that if all we have left is Jesus, we have everything we need. This isn't about building a country club church but creating a riverfront movement where people are transformed and sent out to transform others.
